Character Profiles Incoming
Saturday 22nd March 2008, FiveLeafClover
Well, it's taken me long enough but I've finally gotten around to starting some character profiles. I know I promised some advanced techs before that, but rly there's not much to report on XD
Anyway, I've got G&W, DK and [someone] done so far; next on the list are Fox, Falco, R.O.B., Yoshi and Charizard/Squirtle/Ivysaur since they're the ones that I'm playing the most at the moment. I'll get around to my less-known characters ASAP (I only got it on Monday ffs >_>), probably starting from the top and working my way down.
I know I just censored out one of the unrevealed secret characters just now, but I'm not censoring anyone in the character list, so you have been warned! =P
So, check it out over in the Brawl section under 'Characters'. The list is based on the order of characters in the selection screen vertically if you're wondering (why though I have no idea).
WiFi Works... kinda
Saturday 15th March 2008, FiveLeafClover
People in the UK have started receiving their copies of Brawl and Freeloaders, and luckily for us PAL gamers WiFi is fully functional (if a bit laggy, although those in the US aren't much better off by the sounds of things - more on that in a sec), confirmed by a number of UK gamers on SmashBoards.com.
WiFi has been a huge success in the US - too huge, in fact. 'With Anyone' functionality was extremely sporadic right up until probably two or three days ago, and 'With Friends' hasn't been all that much better. Nintendo still claims to be 'working on it', and in the meantime they've posted up a few tips to help decrease lag on WiFi on their site; however the performance seems to be on the whole improving substantially.
As far as I know both Goombs and I are going to be getting Brawl some time early this coming week, so you can expect a huge increase in activity in the Brawl section as we unlock and critique the new characters. Also, keep an eye on the forums - Goombs and I are going to be hosting a Brawl tournament with a few interesting surprises most likely in early-mid April once Nintendo sorts out the WiFi business and we can guarantee (well, kinda) a fairly lag-free tournament; we'll hopefully be able to grab some participants from more well-known Brawl sites and hopefully make the community here a tad more active as well... bah, I'm getting ahead of myself now =P
Sincerest apologies for not being all that consistent with updates, it's a bit of hit-and-miss for me at the moment between school, illness and whatever... I promise it'll get better (don't hurt me pls) =)
Wii Freeloader = Brawl for outside Japan & US
Sunday 2nd March 2008, Goombastic
I just felt like showing another avatar you can get from the avatar page. Anyway, this is some news that you probably already now about the Wii
Freeloader. This product has been released for £9.99/ $20 and allows players to play imported games. Great. Now people who are waiting for Brawl
outside of the US of A and Japan can buy Brawl and Freeloader and play the game on their Wii no hassle.
Unfortunately, there is no confirmation
whether the game will allow WiFi compatibility at this time, which is unlikely, but then again this is a worldwide WiFi game isn't it? Also,
Nintendo may release another update disabling the Freeloader from working, which they did with the Gamecube Freeloader (as Gamecube games can be
played on the Wii). Apparently, the Freeloader doesn't ruin your warranty at all. You just slip the Freeloader disc in, eject it and then put in
your outside-region game (*cough* Brawl).
New Avatars
Thursday 21st February 2008, Goombastic
Check the avatar section to see a set of new avatars taken from concept art produced for Smash Bros. Brawl.
Use them wherever and whenever you wish. You can see an example avatar on the right of this update.
Still unfortunately no release date for Europe or Australia has been announced, but lets keep our fingers crossed that it is sooner than we think.
New Advanced Techniques Section
Sunday 17th February 2008, FiveLeafClover
Hey, all. I've finally gotten around to setting up some stuff for the site, the first thing on the list being an Advanced Techniques section, since that's about all I can do without actually playing the game myself >_<
The information that will be provided here in the coming months will not only appease the casual audience but also the competitive side as well; this is the first step towards that =)
Most of these advanced techniques are courtesy of SmashBoards.
N.B.: Character-specific advanced techniques will go in the character pages when they're uploaded.
Welcome FiveLeafClover
Monday 4th February 2008, Goombastic
As you are probably aware, Japan received the goodness of Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the 31st January. Unluckily for us who live elsewhere, we'll be
receiving the game at a later date. Its very unfortunate for those who live outside America as they don't yet even have a release date.
I'd like to welcome FiveLeafClover, a new co-webmaster who will be updating the Smash Bros. Brawl section heavily. I will try to sometimes, but due to
work commitments I won't have as much time as I would have liked to. FiveLeafClover is also known as Pyro in the Spiral Mountain community and I know
you will give him the respect he deserves.
